Genetic Counsellors are specially trained health professionals with experience in both medical genetics and counselling. They posses a Master’s degree and are certified to practice in Canada.

Genetic counselling is the process of helping people understand and adapt to the medical, psychological and familial implications of genetic contributions to disease.


What do Genetic Counsellors do?

  • Genetic Counsellors interpret family and medical histories to assess the chance of disease occurrence or recurrence.
  • They offer education about inheritance, testing, management, prevention, resources and research.
  • Genetic Counsellors provide counselling to families to assist in informed choices and adaptation to the risk or condition.

Genetic Counsellors are located at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon and provide genetic services for all residents of Saskatchewan.
