The 2024 HSAS Annual Convention and AGM was held on October 24 & 25, 2024 at the Sheraton Cavalier Hotel in Saskatoon. This year we had Delegates from every Union Region in attendance.
The event kicked off with the announcement of two new HSAS initiatives, The IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Advocacy) Committee and the HSAS Ambassador Program.
Following the kickoff, guest speaker Liz Duret engaged attendees when she spoke on equality, personal growth and cultural understanding. Her presentation had Delegates examining their personal biases and had everyone thinking about how they could contribute to a more peaceful and fair workplace, community, and society.
Erin Beckwell was the afternoon guest speaker. She spoke about accessibility, inclusion, and also burnout in healthcare professions. She provided actionable steps to identify, communicate, and address burnout in ourselves and our colleague while de-stigmatizing the need for self-care and support.
She also encouraged Delegates to help foster more accessible, safe, and inclusive environment for patients, clients, and co-workers in the workplace.
The Members’ Social took place in the evening, providing an opportunity for members from all across the province to mingle and get to know one another as well as their HSAS Executive Council members.
Day 2 started with the Annual General Meeting where Delegates heard the Executive Reports and were able to vote on the proposed resolutions for changes to the HSAS Constitution and Bylaws.
Once the AGM adjourned, National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) President Bert Blundon spoke to Delegates about NUPGE, and the many issues being faced today by the labour movement in Canada and around the world.
After Bert Blundon, Associate Executive Director – Labour Relations, Kim Canning, provided us with the Labour Relations Update, speaking about how a win for one member is a win for all members. She encouraged us to stick together in solidarity, especially with upcoming bargaining, emphasizing that together we have strength.
After lunch, to finish off the Convention agenda, Kim Canning had Senior Labour Relations Officers, Jesse Payne and Braden White join her to answer questions in the Members’ Forum.
HSAS would like to thank this year’s Delegates for joining us! Next convention will be held in Regina on October 23 & 24th, 2025.
We hope to see you there!
